A extended cruise through the Australian Coast is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the ship on a isolated island.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A major rescue mission found her remains the following day.

Officials are investigating the event, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the shipping company announced that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" banning any additional guests from getting on the ship.
